Data & sources

Real geodata with named sources. No invented city, but no guarantee that every detail is current or complete.

Buildings: 3D Basisvoorziening and 3DBAG

New areas use versioned CityJSON tiles from Kadaster’s 3D Basisvoorziening through PDOK. These contain simplified exterior shapes with roof geometry, usually LoD2.2 and sometimes LoD1.3/1.2. The prepared Zandvoort examples use 3DBAG by tudelft3d and 3DGI. Both sources use CC BY 4.0.

We select complete buildings, transform coordinates, triangulate surfaces and scale them. Buildings cut by the boundary are omitted. The specific source and, for PDOK, the data years are included in your download.

Terrain: AHN

Elevations come from the open Actueel Hoogtebestand Nederland through PDOK. We sample its terrain model on a 5 metre grid. Small measurement gaps are filled using nearby elevations. If too many values are missing, we report that reliable terrain cannot be produced. AHN is used under CC0 1.0.

Streets, greenery, water and sand: BGT

The Basisregistratie Grootschalige Topografie describes real surfaces. We select current ground-level areas, group, clip and simplify them. The source is Kadaster/LV-BGT through PDOK under CC0 1.0. A coloured surface does not specify its exact paving or planting.

Colours: open aerial imagery

Additional greenery is estimated from 2025 RGB imagery. For roofs we compare high-resolution images from 2024 and 2025 for each roof surface. They come from Beeldmateriaal Nederland/beeldmateriaal.nl through PDOK under CC BY 4.0. We analyse colour ranges; the photos are not included as building textures.

This is a colour estimate, not an official material classification. Shadows, vegetation, panels, viewing angle and different years can mislead the process. Locally confirmed corrections may take priority. A warning appears if colour analysis is unavailable.

Search, map and data dates

Address search uses the PDOK Locatieserver; the selection map uses PDOK BRT map tiles. The map helps you choose an area and is not the source of the 3D buildings. Buildings, terrain and imagery can come from different years. Retrieval date is not survey date. New buildings, construction sites and changed roofs may differ.

miniature generally supports the European Netherlands. Local gaps and simplified geometry remain possible. NAP is the shared elevation reference. Prepared areas are cached and do not represent a live view.
